Semiconductors are those compounds with small band gaps between fully filled and fully unoccupied bands.Let us consider the elements of Group 14. These all adopt the structure of diamond, in which the atoms are all tetrahedrally coordinated by other atoms.  Metals have structures which may be discussed in terms of the close packing of spheres, and as a result have the high coordination numbers of the close packed systems. Ionic solids, however, have lower coordination numbers, and the discussion of the structure simply in terms of close packed species has to be adapted. The idea of an ionic solid, though, depends on being able to define an ion. The Ionic Model treats a solid as being made up of oppositely charged spheres that interact by the coulombic forces between them, and the short range repulsive forces which occur between closed shell species at small separations. The use of the idea   ...

Give this day a goal, or two or three or a dozen. Then set about, one by one, to make them happen. You can accomplish just about anything you ask of yourself. Yet in order to accomplish, you do need to ask.Make your goals specific and clear. When you know exactly what you intend to do, you’re well on your way to getting it done.Make your goals meaningful and memorable. The more they mean to you, the less likely you are to become sidetracked by all the distractions that will come your way.You now have this day with which to work. Give yourself something meaningful to make of it.Give this day a goal, with your energy focused on accomplishment. And this day, in re   ...

STARTING PREPARATIONThe ideal time to start preparation is at the beginning of 11th class.Students are fresh after the break after boards and a lot more can be learnt.Students who start late often end up leaving some key topics of 11th class JEE syllabus. Also ,if you start your preparation in 12th class then the amount of hard work is increased manifold due to additional pressure of 12th boards,so chances of getting a high rank in JEE are decreased. There is a big transition from the mugging up study of 10th class to more understanding based study of 11th class. So you shouldn't get bogged down by seeing the level of complexity in JEE exam. The first two or three   ...      [ 1, 2 ]

Previous article was based on simple organic conversion for increasing the number of Carbon atoms or same number of C-atoms.Now I am attaching few pages in which I will be concentrating around what we get from aldehydes and ketones and how we can get different products from aldehydes and ketones. I am also condensing few of Aromatic conversion steps. I will write tommorow few pages of general conversions through which you can do all conversions asked in Board exams. So depending upon the understanding of you of basic organic chemistry you can easily do organic conversions. Please keep one thing in mind dont cram any thing If You follow the steps suggested by me there   ...      [ 1, 2, 3 ]

Never use word: 'faster the rate of reaction' or 'slower the rate of reaction'. (Use word such as 'increases', 'decreases', 'higher' or 'lower').      Average rate of reaction is different from instantaneous rate of reaction. (Instantaneous can be determined by drawing a tangent on the graph's curve).   Remember that rate of a reaction is always expressed as a positive value.    Practically all radioactive transformations are first order reactions.   Changing temperature changes the reaction rate. Adding a catalyst (usuall   ...

Many of the students are curious to know what happens at kota. How kids live there away from their family. How are the landlords their . How study goes . How is the mess food. here is my experience .. This post is dedicated to my dear landlord "uncle" the biggest asshole I have ever faced in my life. As I have already mentioned in my blog how reluctant I was to live in his house but unfortunately I had to stay in it for 9 months. There is another unfair system in kota in which you have to give a caution money in advance so that you can't leave the room earlier. So I had also paid 4500rs in advance which uncle was going to return me in dec or jan.   ...

Portions of this entry contributed by  Alok Vats Tachyons are a putative class of particles which able to travel faster than the Speed of Light. Tachyons were first proposed by physicist Arnold Sommerfeld, and named by Gerald Feinberg. The word tachyon derives from the Greek  (tachus), meaning "speedy." Tachyons have the strange properties that, when they lose energy, they gain speed. Consequently, when tachyons gain energy, they slow down. The slowestspeed possible for tachyons is the speed of light. Tachyons appear to violate causality (the so-calle   ...
