Panjab University's online system of admission for graduate courses is in the dock even before it could take-off completely.

Citing reasons for hiccups faced by students in the "tedious" online process, certain college principals have sent a representation to PU syndicate to do away with centralized BCom admission. Starting with BCom, the online process was scheduled to be followed for other courses from the next academic session.

However, in a meeting held by faculty members of business management and commerce on December 22, 2011, it was resolved that the syndicate must take a decision on the matter.

"Certain college principals had expressed concern over the complexity of online admission. Since the earlier decision was taken up by PU syndicate, hence only it has the power to reconsider it. We have simply forwarded requests to syndicate members," said Deepak Kapur, former dean (faculty of commerce and business management).

The new dean of the same faculty, A K Vashisht, added, "The faculty did not take a call in its meeting. It was resolved that the power to take any decision in the case rests with the syndicate."

The process of centralized admission was introduced two years ago. Earlier, too, it was introduced and discontinued.

In a bid to simplify the admission process and ensure that deserving students get seat in a college of their choice, PU syndicate and senate gave its consent to a centralized online counselling and admission schedule in all affiliated colleges located at Chandigarh, Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana.
