The Delhi High Court Friday asked a school to take back a Class 8 student, expelled after he was diagnosed to be suffering from dyslexia, a learning disability. Giving relief to Priyam Kumar, a student of St.Mary's School in Safdarjung Enclave, Justice Kailash Gambhir directed the school to take back the student in Class 9. Criticising the school's attitude of expelling the student after he was diagnosed with dyslexia, the court said: "It is simply a disorder and nothing else. These students are to be treated with great sensitivity and not in the way the school has done so."

Priyam's father approached the court after the school ignored the state education directorate's order for taking back the student. In its arguments, the school pleaded that these type of students need more attention and so it is difficult to handle them.

At this, the court said: "Giving education to such students will make the environment more congenial and other students will also learn as how to cooperate with each other."

The court also sought a status report from the school by July 14.
