Jardines, a firm of solicitors, acted for Chris who was buying a new house from Jerry Builders ltd. Under the terms of the contract the builders had to give notice by post when the house was ready for Chris to move in. Payment for the house had to be made on the same day. The notice period wa 10 days. The builders left a message on Jardines answering machine. The message stated that this was the formal notice requesting payment and allowing Chris to move in. The notice gave the required 10 days
